Tarmac 10-Years Strategies for success in a unique workplace culture

To ensure a culture's success, it is essential to consider the people at the center.  Without a doubt, Tarmac.io has always been about the people within it. As a collaborative company that strives for daily improvement, we must recognize the importance of our team as generators of internal changes. But what do the people at Tarmac.io truly value? We set out to have conversations with our Leads and Referents - people who have stayed here for ten years or more - to understand the pillars that have led us to build a successful culture over the past ten years.

Team1
  • The key to success is to work surrounded by talented people and trust in their process. We build teams, give them tools, and trust in their potential. We maintain trust throughout the organization through transparent communication, consistent actions, and accountability.
  • Transparent Communication: At Tarmac.io, one of the main goals is to create a bond that allows us to be connected despite the location or time zone differences. Clear communication in advance is essential for the proper functioning of our company. We encourage Tarmacians to express their opinions, concerns, and feedback. At the same time, the leadership ensures that all of the information is distributed effectively throughout the organization.
  • Strong Relationship & Leadership Approachability: Our CEO, CTO, CFO, and every Team Lead share daily meetings with the rest of the team members, which makes them involved and aware of everything that happens. Also, the key for us is to care more about the team than shining out individually.
  • Adaptability & Innovation: One of the most important strategies for long-term success is maintaining a commitment to continuous learning. At Tarmac.io, every Retrospective meeting and the All team Meetings (our internal meetings) are an opportunity to suggest new ideas and review company updates.
  • Continuous Feedback: At Tarmac.io, 1:1's are held monthly to give room for constant feedback. We take the time to value and recognize the good job, and suggest improvements.
  • Flexibility and work-life balance: Long-term success isn’t just about what you achieve at work; it’s also about maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Relying on good communication, we can get the correct match.
  • Local HR referents in each venue: They help to understand and merge different cultures in the company. The HR team is a referent and guide for each country's needs. We have offices in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Macedonia, and they are a meeting place encouraged by the HR events and cultural staff. The HR support on the local level addresses employees’ concerns, provides guidance on policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Kudos and Milestones: One thing we do very well at Tarmac.io is to celebrate. We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, intercompany trips, and more. There is never a shortage of reasons to be thankful!
  • Have Fun: Even though we have serious work to do, there is always room for fun and quality time with the team.

In conclusion of those ten years, the key to our collective and solid culture success is the daily collaborative work that makes us take care of the team as a whole rather than sharing individually, fostering a productive work environment where team members willingly support and assist each other.

Some of the aspects of Tarmac.io's culture that bring joy to my work life are flexibility to work and clarity in what is expected from Tarmac.io, as well as the follow-up by the Team Leaders with each team member.
